What is Finote Democracy Radio ?
Finote Democracy Radio is an opposition clandestine radio established decades ago when the totalitarian regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam in Ethiopia stifled dissent and curtailed freedom of speech and of the press.
It was started in the EPRP liberated area of Quara in Gondar by the organization that struggled against feudalism and imperialism and for democracy in Ethiopia. A progressive voice it survived over endless jamming and after the fall of the Mengistu regime it had to withstand the onslaught of the Tigrean regime headed by the late Meles Zenawi. Finote Democracy upheld the right of the people to get factual information, it broadcast educational programs in favour of human rights, against foreign machinations be it against Ethiopia or Africa, made people aware on environmental protection, the rights of women and children, against ethnic discrimination and oppression. Under the Tigrean regime the deputy head of the notorious security agency (INSA) was none other than the present Nobel prize awarded colonel who has now become Prime Minister and he has since supervised various attempts to jam the radio.
Finote Democracy radio stands for abroad based democratic transition in Ethiopia.
It advocates for a real multi party democracy, for an end to ethnic based rule, for real environmentally proper policy, for a rejection of the GMO accepted by the ruling regime. for the actual recognition of the rights of women and not the propaganda ploy of appointing cadre women as ministers. Two years ago FINOTE Democracy took a stand against the actual regime in place declaring that, not withstanding the propaganda, it was a continuation of the 27 years long Tigrean regime (TPLF/EPRDF). Time has proved Finote right after the massacres and ethnic cleansing of Amharas and the still ongoing genocidal rampage by the mobs of the regime itself, There is a total breakdown of law and due process, the internet is blocked, journalists under arrest and political prisoners still number more than 50,000.
FINOTE Democracy is practically the only voice for democracy and real change in Ethiopia. The only voice of the voiceless and the credible source of factual news and information on Ethiopia.
