The Finnish Lapphund Community spreads across the globe, and when one of our community suffers a terrible fate, we all feel it.
Ilona Didkovska from Wood Mark Kennel, is a Finnish Lapphund and Siberian Husky breeder in Kyiv, Ukraine. She has 2 adult Lapphunds and 8 Lapphund puppies. She has had to flee her home with 18 dogs in total.
The Polish authorities will only allow 5 dogs to travel through Poland, so 5 of the puppies are heading for Germany after another our Lapphund Community based there, offered to help.
Only women and children can leave Ukraine, so Ilona will set off tomorrow, Saturday 12th March and head to Poland with the puppies.
She will meet a fellow Lapphund owner who will travel from Northern Germany and take the puppies back to Germany with them.
We hope the authorities will allow this.
Ilona will return to somewhere in Ukraine to relocate the rest of the dogs.
She won't be able to return home as it isn't safe.
The fuel, accommodation and feeding costs for those involved, along with the dogs, will be considerable.
On arriving in Germany, the puppies will need to be vet checked and allowed a period of settling in before their future is determined.
The puppies will require food and shelter, all at the expense of the breeder who has gone above and beyond to help a fellow Lapphund breeder and owner.
This page hopes to raise funds to help with the costs incurred in relocating the puppies.
Until she is settled, we hope to help Ilona with the 5 remaining Lapphunds and her other dogs.
As far as we know, Ilona is the only Lapphund owner in Ukraine. However, should any other be identified the funds can be extended to assist where we can in a similar way.
Any surplus funds can be used to help other animal charities in Ukraine
