Finnigan’s Hope: A Family’s Plea for Healing

HELP SAVE FINNIGAN - OUR SPIRITED COLT FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE

Meet Finnigan, our brave 7-week-old colt, full of life, personality, and an unrelenting spirit. Born unexpectedly on our small backyard farm, Finn has brought light and joy to our family in ways we never imagined. But now, he’s fighting for his life—and he needs your help.

Just a short time ago, Finnigan suffered a devastating injury—a deep cut to the back of his front leg that damaged the fragile tendon sheaths. It’s a serious and painful injury that requires intensive veterinary treatment, including IV regional limb perfusion (IVRLP) therapy, frequent bandage changes, antibiotics, and ongoing pain management.

Without this care, he may lose the ability to walk—or worse, his life.

This journey has been both emotionally heartbreaking and financially overwhelming. We’re doing everything in our power to give him a chance, but the costs of his care and rehabilitation are rising quickly. That’s why we’re asking for your support—every donation goes directly to Finnigan’s vet bills and recovery needs.

A Rescue Mission of Hope

Finnigan’s story began long before his birth. Last year, we came across a listing for a mare in a Colorado kill pen—unwanted, injured, and scared. Something about her haunted us. We couldn’t look away. Without hesitation, we hooked up the trailer and drove all the way from Connecticut to Colorado to save her. It was a long, exhausting, and emotional trip—over 3,500 miles roundtrip—but every mile was worth it.

It wasn’t an easy trip—especially when a tire blew out on the trailer in the middle of Nebraska. We were stranded for hours, desperately calling places, hoping someone—anyone—could help us on short notice. After many stressful hours, we finally found a small shop willing to squeeze us in and replace the tire. It was a tense moment, one of many, but we pushed on. Because she was worth it.

When we arrived, we found Dove, battered and terrified. She had severe lacerations on her face and front leg, and she wouldn’t let anyone near her. But beneath all the fear, we saw a soul worth saving. We brought her home and gave her the name “Dove” to symbolize the peace and safety we hoped she’d find with us.

What we didn’t know then was that Dove was pregnant. She had been through so much—yet carried new life inside her.

A Surprise Miracle

In early spring, on a quiet morning, Dove gave birth to Finnigan right here on our family farm. His arrival was a shock, but a beautiful one. He was strong, curious, and full of mischief from the start—chewing on everything (and everyone!) with pure baby-horse joy.

Since Finn’s birth, something incredible happened: Dove began to heal, inside and out. She became calmer, more trusting, and even affectionate. For the first time, she let us into her world. It’s as if Finn gave her a reason to trust again.

Now He Needs Us

Now, this bright, spirited colt who helped his mother heal is in critical condition. Watching him struggle is unbearable. We can’t lose him. We owe it to Finn, to Dove, and to the long road that brought us together.

We know times are tough for everyone, but if you’re able to help—even a few dollars—it would mean the world to us. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing Finnigan’s story to help us reach others.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for caring about the lives of horses like Finnigan and Dove. We believe in second chances, and with your help, Finnigan can have his.

With heartfelt gratitude,
