Finishing the job - New Classrooms in Ghana
Donation protected
Presby School's new kindergarten foundations have been laid. The walls have been built. All they need is just a bit more money to create a floor, a roof and to plaster and paint.
Hi, my name is Bella Barolsky and I have just spent the last 2 months volunteering in schools around Aduamoa, Kwahu East, Ghana (4 hour drive from the Accra, the country's capital).
Here is my video showing what's needed:
This new kinder is going to make a massive difference. I've seen first-hand the benefits it will bring. Currently, there are hugely overcrowded classrooms and generally a very poor learning environment.
Every cent donated will be donated directly to the building project. There are no middle people, charities with big overheads or officials taking a cut. All paid labourers and contractors come from the local community.
If you support this initiative we will send photos (with your approval) of the project as it progresses.
FYI, some more details about the school:
- Name: Presbyterian School of Shwi Shwi
- Location: Shwi Shwi, Ghana (https://goo.gl/maps/BgT8wSmjnTgw4vPY8)
- Number of students: Approx 250.
The school teaches kids from the local community of all ages. This is what the neighbourhood looks like:
The construction project and what’s needed
The new kindergarten construction was started by two volunteers in 2021. It is on hold until the next person/funding comes.
Stages of the construction:
1. Foundations (this had been done)
2. Main walls (this has been done)
3. Wood flooring
4. Roofing
5. Doors and windows
6. Plastering
7. Painting
In total, the building needs $9,419AUD, to be completed in its entirety. However, with ambitions to complete the 'wood flooring’ and 'roofing stages', we have set our target goal at $4,500AUD.
