Finishing Off Cancer with Bone Marrow Transplant
Donation protected
Hi everyone -- most of you who will see this know me, so, no need for introductions. My name is Brandon, I'm 28 years old, and on April 1st, 2022, I was diagnosed with B-Cell ALL; or acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Thanks to the tireless efforts of my wonderful oncology team, I am, as of right now, in complete remission and spending a month of recovery cancer-free.
This is the good news.
The bad news...
My cancer is what's called an MLL (mixed lineage leukemia) gene rearrangement, which is associated with a high risk of relapse, and a low overall prognosis. We are now preparing for the next stage of our battle: fighting the extremely high rates of relapse with an allogeneic bone marrow transplant. The procedure itself is prohibitively expensive, as is the cost of living during the recovery period. We currently have a growing accumulation of medical bills, debt, and home accommodations we'll need to make in the wake of the procedure.
I can't thank the support system of friends, family, and concerned community members who have rallied around us to help with our battle. We feel blessed every day to have the village of assistance that we have. We are staying laser-focused on this being the final attack on this disease. We're extremely optimistic that the bone marrow transplant will be able to course-correct the gene mutation and give me a fighting chance to carry onward, cancer-free.
