After a powerful and inspiring production journey, "Joy" — a short film directed by Joan Michel, starring/written by poet Rashad Wright, both of whom also are producers alongside Erby Beauvil of Breathe Entertainment, LLC has entered post-production. The team has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to raise $3,000 to support the film’s editing, music, sound design, marketing, and film festival submissions.
From the very beginning, “Joy" has been a labor of love. The film tells a deeply resonant story about what it means for Black men and boys to reclaim happiness in a world that often demands their toughness and suppresses their softness. It’s an intimate, visual meditation on vulnerability, connection, and the quiet resilience that joy itself can represent.
“We all know some guy — a brother, a father, a cousin, a kid — who deserves to experience happiness and peace, even if just for a few minutes on film,” says producer Erby Beauvil.
“Joy" is our way of giving that moment back.”
Filmed in the heart of Essex County, New Jersey, “Joy" brings together a passionate team of local artists and creatives who have poured their time, energy, and hearts into making the story come alive. Now, with production complete, the team is asking for community support to cross the finish line and prepare the film for its festival run and public release.
