Finishing Funds for 'Better Call Babs'

Hello Friends & Family!

As many of you already know, we have been making a documentary for the last three years about a San Diego icon - Babs Fry. Her work as a Pet Detective in Southern California impacts a wide range of communities and recognition of her vivacious public persona grows rapidly day by day.

Babs first attracted our attention after seeing a plethora of missing pet posts in local Facebook pages filled with comments saying “CALL BABS!” After looking through dozens and dozens of posts, we found a shocking amount of successful recovery stories - all indicating how large of an impact Babs has during a pet owner's most panicked moments. Her advice was so counter-intuitive to our human nature and yet so effective, that we thought “how do more people not know about this?” Once we finally met Bab’s in person and saw how wacky and passionate she is, we knew that her story would be compelling.

In this documentary, we set out to showcase the unrelenting nature of her work, her enthusiasm to help our community's furry friends at a moment's notice, and to educate as many people as possible on pet recovery “best practices.” What we ultimately found was a deeply human story about overcoming life’s darkest obstacles, following your true purpose, and impacting the world while doing so. We believe this film can be universally impactful, both emotionally and educationally.

In order for this film to meet the standard of quality that it deserves, we are seeking to raise post-production funds to elevate Bab’s story with a well-crafted soundscape, animation, color design, and film score.

We are working with a classically trained composer, Luke Mombrea (Wild Robot, Alien: Earth, Loki, Silo), to create an original score as well as a sound design team to work hand-in-hand crafting a unique and purposeful sound to compliment Babs' distinct “larger-than-life” personality. These funds will also be utilized to market the film and submit it to a few prestigious film festivals once completed.

As of right now, 100% of the labor and materials used to create the film have been self-funded and the film has been primarily produced in our free time. It has been an extreme labor of love and we thank you for any help you can offer to get this film across the finish line.

With love,
Coral Brook, Cam Lui, and Michael Schnee

P.S. Donations during this phase of fundraising will allow you to be added to our VIP mailing list so that you are the first to know about in person screening events and those who donate $250 or above will be mentioned in our “Special Thanks” during the end credits of the film!
