Hello friendly angels. Christopher here and this is my story. I have been struggling with alcoholism and just got my second DUI. I’m currently doing my second 30 day residential treatment. I had just under 4 years of continuous sobriety between treatments. The first was a 12 step program. This time it also includes CBT, DBT, meditation, recovery & relapse prevention trainings to name a few. I meet with a psychotherapist weekly and councillors teach group therapy sessions. I have a primary councillor who I meet with regularly one on one. I do morning and evening MEPPS check-ins (ie. how I’m doing mentally, emotionally, physically, socially & spiritually). I’m on many waiting lists for a sober living halfway house with aftercare. I can’t stay at home and think it’s important for me to learn to take care of myself in a positive and loving way. I feel like with regard to alcohol, it’s no longer a slippery slope but a cliff. I’m broke, homeless and unemployed. I can honestly say detoxing from my last drunk was the worst experience of my life. I recognize that alcoholism is a progressive disease but with the therapy and group sessions I have lost the obsession to drink. My Dr. Has signed off on long term disability for a year to help me heal and create positive routines for healing. I have an action plan including AA meetings and the aftercare that the treatment centre provides as well. I’d feel very blessed and grateful to anyone willing to donate to my sobriety journey.
