Mr. Pickles is missing!
This gofundme account will go to raising money toward a reward and to help cover the costs in the search for Mr. Pickles. He's been missing for nearly 4 months now, and with winter quickly approaching we are stepping up the effort to get him home before the snow flies.
The longer he is on the run, the more expensive this gets for us. As we are self-employed artists, we're already on a shoestring budget and every little bit helps a whole, big lot. In addition to helping us cover money spent on flyer printing charges, paper, road signs, trail cameras, gas, camping fees for numerous stakeouts in Holly, and food, we've had many volunteer members of the Pickle Posse buying big things (like live traps!) with their own money and we would like to be able to reimburse them.
So here's the scoop.
Mr. Pickles escaped from my Aunt and Uncle's house in Grand Blanc, Michigan, while being beagle-sat. They live in the Grand Reserve condos off of Baldwin Rd between Sagniaw St and Vassar. He is a wary pup, and would not come to my uncle once outside. He eventually ran off. This was Saturday, July 25th, around 2 pm. He was seen twice on Saturday on McCandlish Road, where it's dirt, then several times on Sunday on Green Rd, between Gale and M-15. However, we did not learn about these sightings until 24 hours after.
He is unfamiliar with the area outside the condo complex. I suspect he is looking for home--our house in Pinckney is on a dirt road, removed somewhat from other houses. In each sighting he was running, and would not approach those who saw them.
THE MOST RECENT CONFIRMED SITING was on Tuesday August 11 at 8:00 am on Academy near Fish Lake Road in Holly.
Friday August 7th: He was at Grange Hall and Rood Roads at 5 am, as reported by the State Trooper. By 11:30 PM he was at Falk Rd and E Holly Rd, heading west. We had arrived at 6 am that morning, spent six or so hours searching. Went home, got our camper, and came back that evening. We were on the road until almost midnight Friday night. We did not see him, though it is possible he smelled us and was following.
We have many possible/probable sightings in the Fish Lake Rd and Academy Rd area in Holly, and are back to camping out up there in order to be closer.
ABOUT MR PICKLES: He is old, but not quite older than dirt. He came to us that way, old, dirty, and frightened. He has the most stoic personality I've even known in a dog. Normally, he sleeps most of the time, snoring like a freight train (which makes me worry about coyotes finding him). He is short for a beagle, with the cutest damn beagle-feet you've ever seen. He has cataracts, poor hearing, and I think his sense of smell is also diminished. Tri-color with a very white face, weighs about 30 pounds. And everybody loves him--though I'm not sure he shares the sentiment. But it's hard to tell, he's so hard to read.
He is a very shy beagle, but friendly. Never been aggressive. He is however afraid of many things. Children. Loud noises. Things being thrown at or near him. Screeching children throwing things at him. Guns. Because he does not see well, he is very wary of strangers and is tentative to approach people. He will walk up to you until he can smell you, then back off. However, you cannot chase after him or lunge at him--he will run like the wind. You have to let him come to you.
I will update this post as we get new information. Please encourage your friends and even those who are not so friendly to like this page in order to receive timely updates. We have had amazing outpouring of support and lots of help. Let's keep it going until we find him.
Peace and Pickles,
Lisa, Marie and Lori
(And our cat Oskar really misses his buddy Mr. P as well)
