UPDATE: We’ve been so overwhelmed by the generosity and prayers of so many of you. We were able to secure the apartment on the memory care unit thanks to all of you! We will be paying private pay for two years, which is why the goal is updated, until she qualifies for the Medicaid Waiver, which will allow her to age in place at this facility. 

* any additional money donated past our goal will go toward additional expenses incurred in the transition and fees related to legal, medical, etc .

 

Our mom, who goes by DJ, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in October 2021. You can read the journey we've been on in the article linked below. Her symptoms started to present themself subtly in 2017 and over the years she's lost the ability to manage her finances, drive, work, and many other tasks.

 

She's only 58 and unfortunately, this disease has no cure. She will continue to decline cognitively and require continued 24/7 care and security. She tends to wander on her own, which has put her in several serious and potentially life-threatening situations. This has placed a sense of urgency for us to find her something more permanent and safe.

 

We have been diligently seeking resources, programs, speaking with social workers, and aid for the last year to no avail. However, an agency recently helped us locate an appropriate home for our mom. It will not only support her physical and cognitive needs but also her safety. She'll be able to have the socialization she needs and be able to age in place in a new home.

 

We need your help, to hold the new memory care unit for our mom, there's a required deposit of $3,000.00. Once the deposit is put down the unit will be hers.
