My name is Lana Shapoval. I am a Ukrainian filmmaker who came to the United States searching for safety, a home, and a future. Instead, I found myself starting over once again – this time not because of war, but because of heartbreak.

When the full-scale invasion began, I packed my life into a single suitcase and crossed borders I never imagined crossing. I thought the worst was behind me. I thought America would be the place where I could finally breathe. But life had another twist waiting for me: a divorce, isolation, and the painful realization that I had to rebuild myself all over again.

Not just as an immigrant. Not just as an artist. But as a human being trying to belong.

From this moment of collapse came the spark for my new documentary, Perfect Goodbye.

This film follows my journey on a road trip across the United States – from the West Coast to the East Coast – as I look for the meaning of home in a world where everything familiar has been taken away. It’s a story about trauma, reinvention, migration, and the quiet courage it takes to walk forward when you have no idea where the road leads.

I am raising $15,000 to begin pre-production, which includes:
