August 2021– Justice for Jelani Day
On August 24, 2021, my son disappeared from Illinois State University - Bloomington and was reported missing after failing to show up for class. His car, wallet, clothing, phone, and even his body were found in five separate locations—yet his killers remain free. We are losing faith in local authorities, who never made Jelani’s disappearance a priority.
I have endured an unimaginable pain that no mother should ever have to bear. Jelani received little to no media attention or FBI assistance. Meanwhile, when a young white woman went missing for just 48 hours, she was met with nationwide coverage and immediate FBI involvement. The racial disparity is undeniable.
Jelani was a respectful, driven young man who loved the Lord. He ran track at Alabama A&M, was pursuing his master’s degree in speech pathology at Illinois State, and was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi. His future was just beginning when it was stolen from him.
We are raising funds to:
- Offer a monetary reward for critical information leading to the identification and arrest of Jelani Day’s killers.
- Provide mental health and grief counseling to myself and Jelani’s three siblings.
- Cover cost to hire private investigators, attorneys, and other critical personnel to help us as we continue our fight for justice for Jelani.
