Ringler's Relay for Erica's Wish Blanket program

At the end of August of the Running Ringlers will embark on a 123 km continuous running relay from our home at 19 Juliana Crt. in the west end of Toronto to our parents home at 42 Fairington Cres. in St. Catharines. Each family member will be running (or walking) at least twice and we are hoping to cover the distance in under 12 hours.

In 2017 we lost our daughter, sister, aunt and friend to cancer. Melissa was always very supportive of our running events travelling as far as Boston and Mont Tremblant to watch us compete. Mel’s death was also the jumpstart that Stu and his family needed to catch the running bug. It is for these reasons that we would like to make this run a fundraiser for a cancer related charity.

Erica's Wish was created when a girl named Erica, was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (Osteosarcoma). Osteosarcoma is the same cancer that Terry Fox had. Erica like Terry, had a long series of chemotherapy treatments and a leg amputation. The first Erica's Wish race was held on Erica's 13th birthday. Erica has since gone on to represent Canada at the Paralympics!

The Erica's Wish race was a must attend on our yearly running calendar. Catherine, Warren, Kinnon, Jocelyn and Dave (Grandpa) ran the race multiple times.  The 1k kids run was JoJo's first independent run at 2 years of age. Warren was the 5k winner four years in a row and Catherine even took the women's title once.  More importantly it was a great family event for a good cause as we watched Erica get stronger every year! 

Today Erica's Wish raises funds to make blankets for all the Oncology children at SickKids Hospital. Once admitted, each child will receive an Erica's Wish blanket and  hear Erica's story to comfort them throughout their treatments.  Please make Erica's wish come true and support the blanket program at SickKids Hospital.

We hope that you could support our run in honour of Mel, spending time doing what you love with your families and living a healthy active lifestyle. Every little bit counts.

Since Erica's Wish is a not for profit charity and thus doesn't have its own sight we will be forwarding all raised funds to this charity once we've finished our event.
