Update: the kittens are here! At their birth, they were perfectly fine. I left them alone with mama cause they were all moving and breathing and nursing, and she knows what to do. Later, Penny kept bringing me to the babies, and I discovered the remaining placenta (mama got tired) were tangled together with ALL of their umbilical cords. I called the emergency vet, tied off the cords, but the issue was one of the kittens circulation was cut off of its leg and foot. It was super swollen and purple, and just didn’t look good. Ended up taking them all to the emergency vet to get checked out, and they’re all doing well. Sol (the injured kitten) had good blood flow, so I was told to massage and stretch the leg everyday for a few times a day for at least a week. It had been going well, it looked MUCH better, then this morning, the toes had darkened. Blackened on top. All the signs I was warned to look out for. Took another trip, as they told me I needed to get it checked soon if I wanted Sol to live. Yesterday it was confirmed he will need an amputation. Whether it will be just toes or the whole foot, depends. He’s currently on some antibiotics, and I’m soaking his foot twice a day in warm water and epsom salt, but that’s mostly to fight infection. They want to wait a few days for surgery, since he’s so young. Some people have told me to give it. “Its just a kitten!” they say. But when I look at Sol, I don’t just see a kitten. I see someone needing a friend, and finding him. I see the trust and love of Penny, in me, to save her baby. I see a future disabled kitty that reminds people it’s not the cards your dealt in life, but how you play them. This cat has his whole life ahead of him. IF he can get the medical help he so desperately needs. Please, if you have anything, consider helping out this little guy
