Fincher Family Lahaina Home Rebuild
Donation protected
As many are aware, on Tuesday, August 8th, a devastating wildfire spread rapidly through the town of Lahaina, HI and completely wiped out the town. The scenes of destruction are probably familiar to most by now, and the death toll continues to climb. My brother Dave and his family were fortunate enough to escape with their lives but were not able to save their home and businesses. They watched, helpless as the flames overtook the town they love and have called home for nearly 15 years.
The harrowing ordeal started quickly and with little warning. As fires sparked in the town below, Dave went to go help try to extinguish the flames and help others escape. At some point in the chaos, he was separated from his jeep and forced to go on foot through the flames and smoke as the town turned to ashes around him. He quickly realized there was no stopping the destruction so he, with the help of his friend Mike, rushed back up the hill only to find his home fully engulfed. With no way to continue toward the house, they felt their way through the smoke and embers and rushed Northward until they were able to get free of the flames. With all communications down he was unsure as to the location and wellbeing of his wife and family. Finally, after 12 fearful hours of searching, he was able to find his family safe in a parking lot north of Lahaina.
This story was just one of many tragic and terrifying instances that occurred in Lahaina on the day of the fires. Families all over are left without shelter, food, and water and are looking for help in the rebuilding of Lahaina, a town beloved by many. Their businesses Down The Hatch, Breakwall Shave Ice, and Mala Ocean Tavern, have been central pillars of the Lahaina community for years now and will take many years to rebuild and recover (Mala miraculously survived the fires).
Those of you who know Dave and Katia know they are as generous as they come when it comes to their time and money. I've spoken with countless individuals over the years who have credited them with helping them in their times of need. Now is their time of need, and they're asking for help in rebuilding the home they've lost. There is a long road to recovery ahead as they rebuild lives from the rubble. If you are looking to help please consider donating. All donations will go to Dave and his family in their efforts to rebuild their home.
Many Thanks,
