Financing "Keeping It Reel" (Reed's Second Book!)

Donation protected
My name is Reed Martin and I am a former adjunct professor at NYU's Stern School of Business and Columbia Business School, and author of the indie film production guide "The Reel Truth." https://amzn.to/3rYCiaV

I will be spending four months from February to May 2023, writing an all-new follow-up production guide (and film school textbook), that will hopefully be the second in a three-book series: "Keeping It Reel," that will include "how-to" advice from leading names like "Trainspotting" director Danny Boyle, "Sideways" producer Michael London, "Iron Man" cinematographer Matthew Libatique, and others whom I have interviewed for chapters that are underway, as well as a number of popular TikTok influencers.

"Keeping It Reel" will include several chapters focusing on best practices for the tens of thousands of new TikTok and Instagram content creators who are telling funny and compelling stories in 30-60 second intervals on those platforms. (Note: If TikTok ends up being banned in the U.S., then the advice about creating short-form video content will still be valid and can be applied to Instagram or to whatever online platform arises to take TikTok's place.)

The market for such a book has expanded, now that anyone with a decent smartphone can create high-definition short videos for popular web sites (including YouTube and Vimeo, remember those) a growing trend that was predicted in "The Reel Truth." The new book will include guidance on how they can get the most out "pro" cameras (such the iPhone 14 or the GoPro "Hero" 11) as well as best practices for becoming an online influencer.

For filmmakers who dream of making a traditional 90-minute feature film that can be considered for Sundance or other leading festivals, "Keeping It Reel" will also provide guidance on how aspiring directors and production teams can step up their game with the latest high-end 4K and even 8K digital equipment.

The $10,000 target will be used to cover four months of expenses while writing and the costs of attending the SxSW Film Festival in March 2023 (www.sxsw.com/festivals/film/) to interview actors, directors, and online influencers who now attend the Austin event every year.

These donated funds will also be used to purchase and mail bulk-purchased copies of the finished paperback version of "Keeping It Reel" to all supporters of the effort. Your contribution will help make this second book a reality and also cover the cost of having a paperback copy sent to you (at some point in May or June of 2023) at that time.

Please let me know if you have any questions that I can answer by reaching out to me directly at reedmartin40 [they redact the rest of the email address for some reason.] I am reachable by email or on my mobile though, certainly!

Thanks! Reed
