Saw stop for Steven.

Monday morning started out like any other morning. It was a typical day for me. I got up a did my workout at the gym, came home ate breakfast and saw my wife off to work. I got started with work about 9:00 that morning and by 9:30 everything changed. I was making a cut on the table saw that I have made many times in the past, except this time surprised me. The piece of wood got slightly off and kicked back and hit me in the face and at the same time my hand was placed into the blade. I sustained major injuries on my left hand and was rushed to the hospital by my kids, 17 and 14, who were keeping calm on the outside but completely loosing it on the inside. After getting to the hospital I was taken straight to the back and they started to help with the pain and bleeding. I was in the hospital for 4 days and had 2 surgeries… 1 being a cleaning and trying to piece back together what was left of my thumb and fingers to see the extent of my next surgery. The 2nd was nearly 7 hours of work trying to save 2 of my mangled fingers and thumb. I will have several more to go and physical/occupational therapy before I can get back to using my hand again.

 

I have hopes of returning to building custom furniture but for now it is a waiting game. If you have placed an order with me, know that I will be contacting you soon to see where we need to go from here.

 

Please keep me and my family in your prayers. This is my full time job so we will be without my extra income for some time but know that God is in all of this and has a plan. Thank you for praying and understanding.

 

I’ve been constantly asked about what we need or if people can send meals or financial assistance… you are more than welcome if you so feel inclined but it is not necessary either.

To prevent this from happening again we are trying to raise money to buy a “saw stop” table saw. It is a table-saw that can detect when a finger is in the blades and immediately retract before any injury can occur, and let’s you keep your thumb and all of your other finger.
