Financial Support for Leona Brown

Calling all community members and food activist to help support Leona Brown who is experiencing health challenges and financial hardship and who is reaching out for community support. Leona is a dedicated community member who is very much deserving of our support to help her through a particularly difficult time.

Leona is a Gitxsan and Nisga’a single mother of 3 children Fireweed House and Killerwhale Clan. Leona is an incredibly kind and giving person. Her work as an Indigenous Cultural Programmer includes a large focus on sharing and teaching around Indigenous healing, Indigenous food systems and sovereignty. She runs community workshops, talking circles, reconciliation talks, medicine making and the promotion of healing through advocacy. Leona has been an active member of the Vancouver Urban Food Forest Foundation, Hives for Humanity, Vancouver Food Justice, Single Mother’s Alliance, BC Coalition of School Food, Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House to name a few. She is also a member of the Vancouver School Board District Parental Advisory where she advocates for Indigenous focused education. Leona has also worked with the City of Vancouver in various capacities.

Leona is struggling with sever acute and chronic back pain which has even forced her into hospital and preventing her to fully work. Consequently, Leona is falling further into debt and struggling to cover rent and family expenses, adding considerably to personal stress and further ill health.
