Financial Support for Beth and Bill Skidmore
Donation protected
My mother in law, Beth has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Just a few short months ago Beth was a vibrant, healthy and active 55 years old wife, mother, Mammaw, friend and one of the hardest workers I know. Beth and Bill have been married for 38 years, they have two great sons and 3 wonderful grandchildren that they love so much. Beth has always been the most caring, loving and protective Mammaw. They recently moved back to Pennsylvania from Wyoming where they spent the last 10 years. We were so excited to have them back home to be able to spend time together as a family. They purchased a home in Acme, Pa, closed on it late 2022, and soon was settled in. During the move, Beth expressed that she was experiencing some abdominal pain and thought it was related to a minor, unserious surgery that she had earlier in the year and that she planned to have it checked. She made an appointment with a PCP, where she was told that she needed to go the hospital for more testing. She went directly from the Doctors office to the Emergency room where she was told she had cancer, it was aggressive and she had 3 large tumors in her abdomen and it was throughout her liver. After more testing, they diagnosed her with stage 4 ovarian cancer. This was a huge shock to all of us. Beth was healthy. The picture on right was prior to the diagnosis and the one on the left is her most recent. She is not a smoker or a drinker and always tried to take care of herself, whether she was walking or doing Zumba, playing outside with her grandkids or just carrying on, she was always active. She began Chemo and wanted to fight! She wasn't giving up! She continued working from home while taking treatments and things were tough but going well. Then they took a turn for the worst. She had a phone interview with a client from work and missed it. Her employer was concerned and contacted her son. He tried calling her but got no answer so he drove to her home. He found her nearly unconscious and incoherent. Her chemo port became infected and she got sepsis. Her body went into septic shock and she became very Ill, very fast. She was life flighted to Magee women's Hospital where she was admitted to the ICU, and spent almost two months. The chemo port was removed, the doctor stopped any further injections and she was put on several antibiotics for the infection and medication for pain. They soon had to put her on life-support and dialysis due to all of the damage done to her organs from the sepsis. After a very long process, she was taken off life support, her kidneys started functioning again and she was able to talk and was more coherent! We were happy for the progress! She was released from the hospital and sent home with instructions, medication and home care nurses that visited weekly. She is no longer able to walk due to nerve damage and toll the sepsis took on her body and is under 100% care from her husband and family members. She was recently admitted to the hospital again for more test because her doctor believes it may have spread to her brain and bones. The doctors are suggesting her be admitted her into hospice care once released from the hospital. Bill is trying to arrange that for her at home, while trying to care for her, work a full-time job, take care of the house, the bills, and shopping etc. He is extremely overwhelmed. Since the sepsis, Beth has not been able to work and Bill's hours have been cut causing them so much burden on their financial situation. Bill has tried to maintain things after Beth got sick but he simply cannot make ends meet with just his income. The house they just purchased is now in foreclosure if 4 months of payments are not made up by the first week of May, they also have vehicles payments and utilities that are all severely past due. I set the fundraiser amount where it's at because I believe that will cover the negative mortgage payments and catch them almost up on the other bills. I have to say that prior to creating this page, I reached out to Beth and Bill to get their approval because, they are not ones to ask for anything in life. Sometimes it's difficult asking for help, it can make you feel like less of a person and helpless, but they need so much support now more than ever. Any donations at all will be so appreciated and applied towards their mortgage, utilities, food and and medical expenses Beth accrues. Thank you all so much!
