Financial support for Anderson
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Anderson, I am 24 years old and I was born in Sierra Leona. I am a person on the move, and since the beginning of 2023 I have been living in Tunisia.
As a Black migrant, life in Tunisia is not easy. There is a lot of racial profiling by the police and daily police violence. the police don’t care about your asylum status; they just assume that you are an illegal migrant and arrest and deport you.
This happened to me twice this year. In August 2024, I was arrested by Tunisian police for the second time this year and deported to the desert near the Algerian border. There were about 130 other Black migrant with me. After splitting into smaller groups, I spent almost two weeks in the desert. With me were children and pregnant women. We had no food, no water, no warm clothing. Please watch this Video with footage I took from the desert and read this article about the whole event.
I was lucky to be among the ones who survived the deportation. After spending two month in a shelter run by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), I am now back in Tunis with my wife. We urgently need financial support to rent a room for ourself and start our life over again.
I appreciate your help,
Anderson
Additional note of a German Friend:
What Anderson has experienced reflects the reality faced by thousands of Black migrants in Tunisia. Over the past year, the situation for Black migrants has worsened, partly due to the racist rhetoric of the current Tunisian president and largely because of a new anti-migration pact between the EU and Tunisia established in 2023. Human rights organizations have been monitoring and reporting on the practice of deporting Black migrants to the deserts near the Algerian and Libyan borders for the past year and a half. For more details on the situation please follow this link to a report by the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), or listen to this Podcast Episode of tageschau (in German).
Anderson is a dear friend of mine, and we stayed in close contact during his second deportation. If you have any spare funds, please consider supporting him and his wife financially.
