I never imagined I would be here — asking for help — but after the year I’ve had, I’ve learned that sometimes strength means admitting you can’t do it alone.
My name is Brittany Glish. I am a single mother in Florida to a beautiful 7 month old baby girl. During my pregnancy, I was in a relationship with someone I believed I would marry and build a life with. Instead, at 11 weeks pregnant, he disappeared without a word. No calls, no messages, no support. Throughout my pregnancy and postpartum, I have carried the financial and emotional weight alone — the medical bills, the baby’s clothes, crib, and every necessity she has ever needed.
After she was born, her father acknowledged paternity by signing her birth certificate. He knew I would be filing for child support, yet the moment I did, he hired an attorney and is now taking me to court for 50% custody of a newborn, despite living in Texas and having never contributed a single dollar or showed any real interest in being a father. He has circumvented being served for child support four separate times. It feels less like love for his daughter and more like an attempt to avoid responsibility.
Meanwhile, I am paying rent, utilities, groceries, gas, daycare, and every medical bill alone — all while covering an extensive amount legal fees to protect my daughter’s stability. The financial pressure has been so intense that I was forced to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. My daughter has a few medical issues that require frequent appointments, and at only seven months old she needs consistency and care.
I work as a paramedic and unfortunately, I "make too much money" to qualify for WIC, food stamps, or any state day care assistance. I work 12 hour shifts and unfortunately, most day cares do not operate for those long hours and I have had trouble finding a sitter, along with being forced to pay $275 per week for daycare from 8-5, further contributing to issues with my job for being unable to work my scheduled shifts and days on many occasions.
I’m working full time and working as much overtime as I can, however managing all of the daily expenses, necessities, and ongoing financial legal obligations have been mentally, emotionally, financially and physically exhausting. I’m fighting to stay afloat financially through one of the hardest seasons of my life meanwhile her father states his “desire” for visitation, but has shown no effort to take part in any other fatherly responsibilities that come with being a parent. Her father did not even buy her a Christmas present, along with refusing to financially contribute towards any of her care or expenses.
Any financial assistance — no matter how small — would help us breathe. It would go toward legal fees, medical costs, basic necessities, and keeping a roof over our heads as I continue this fight. I deeply appreciate every share, every donation, and every kind word of support.
Thank you for helping me protect my daughter and keep her safe.
I wrote a book about healing from this traumatic relationship with my daughter's father you may purchase here on Amazon to help us out financially.
Disclaimer: I am absolutely not against having my daughter's father be in her life. He has been kept up to date with everything since I was pregnant. Despite him not asking for updates, financially refusing to help, or even buying her anything for Christmas. However, there is a level of accountability and responsibility that he must show through his actions, efforts, and intentions to which he has not followed through on. If my daughter's father can prove he consistently has pure intentions to be involved, can prove his willingness to co-parent respectfully, then I would hope that my daughter could develop a loving and stable relationship with him. For the time being, his actions seem aimed towards doing anything he can to hurt me as her mother by willfully being non-compliant in almost every legal aspect of our case thus far.
If any of you would prefer to pay my lawyers directly, please let me know and I can happily arrange that.
