This fundraiser was set up on behalf of Jenni and Lucas Talbert who live in Bethlehem, North Carolina. Lucas is 20 and will be 21 on June 30th. He was diagnosed at the age of 17 with a cyst and an abnormal blood vessel deep in his left temporal lobe of the brain, one of which has caused him to have epileptic seizures ever since.
Jenni and Lucas have been through a lot because of Lucas' seizures. They've both lost jobs and their financial security in the past due to the irregular pattern of his seizures causing the both to be out of work a lot but they've still managed their very best to make ends meet. Lucas works part time at FedEx and they have been very understanding of this whole process. Jenni works full time at Cubbard Express and they are understanding just the same. Both Lucas and Jenni and hilarious, kind, and loving to those they meet and the hearts they touch.
In recent months, Lucas' seizures have worsened even with medications so, Lucas' doctor's have decided to attempt to resolve Lucas' seizures completely. This process is dangerous and somewhat experimental which is why it has been put off until now. On April 20th, Lucase and Jenni will travel to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital where Lucas will remain under observation for possibly up to a month inorder to study the cause of his seizures. They will shave his head and drill holes into his skull in order to place leads all around his brain. These leads will then be hooked up to a computer that reads Lucas’ brain activity and from there the doctors will induce seizures to attempt to locate where exactly the seizures are coming from. Again, this process could take up to a month.
Once done with this process, Lucas and Jenni will return home for a month of resting and recovery before spending another month at Wake Forest where Lucas will then undergo whatever type of procedure on his brain that the doctors deem necessary based on their findings.
This means that there will be possibly a solid 3 months (maybe more, maybe less) where Lucas will be out of work entirely and Jenni will be out a lot trying to help care for her son. To help ease their financial burdens (both medical and general) this fundraiser has been set up in the hopes that people will find it in their hearts to give to this mother and son that have been struggling with this issue for far too long.
If you wish to make an in-personal donation with cash, there are donation boxes set up at the Cubbard Express/Exxon locations in Hiddenite and Bethlehem, North Carolina.
Thank you in advance to all who give and, for those who are not financial able, thoughts and prayers are also very much appreciated.
