A fundraising initiative is currently underway to alleviate Melissa's financial burdens while she is recovering from surgery. Melissa is courageously battling Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a debilitating autoimmune disorder characterized by symptoms such as joint pain and swelling, fever, chest pain, hair loss, oral ulcers, fatigue, and skin rashes. Unfortunately, Melissa's health complications have rendered her unable to work since July 2024, further complicated by Osteoarthritis, Severe Arthritis in her hands and neck, recurring Kidney and Lung infections, widespread pain, and recent corrective eye surgery to restore her peripheral vision. Despite receiving unemployment benefits, they are insufficient to cover supplementary monthly expenses. The additional financial strain of managing medical costs, including travel to and from appointments in St John and uninsured treatments, exacerbates her condition. Melissa's reluctance to seek assistance underscores the urgency of her situation, emphasizing her need for support to ensure her well-being. Notably, Melissa has consistently prioritized others' needs above her own, providing various forms of support, including home improvements, childcare, transportation, and emotional support, despite enduring chronic pain. Her selflessness warrants consideration in determining the level of financial assistance during this challenging period.
