My partner and I just left an apartment after doing a welfare check on an Air Force vet. He’d contacted the VA and they were concerned enough to send us. 

Long story short... he’s frustrated. 

He got an unexpected bill for about $2,000 which apparently stems from when he went out of state for a few months to see his mother just before she died.  This was six ...yes SIX ... years ago.  He’s not in a good enough financial situation to be able to afford this and is now worried about getting booted out of his place if he can’t make rent.

When we left, he was doing much better but the bill still needs to be paid.
