My name is Eileen Fletcher and have been struggling with the financial burden of fighting cancer. I was diagnosed in August of 2023 with Anal Cancer and have been unable to work for several months. I have used up savings, emptied 2 bank accounts, and used credit cards to pay my bills, however, it was not enough to get me through this hard time. Multiple hospitalizations, treatment, and side effects have taken a toll on my physical and mental health during this journey. I am hoping to get some help with getting caught up on bills and paying off some debt that has accumulated over the months.
I take so much pride in my work and the help I am to give to my community. I have had the honor and privilege of getting to know hundreds of families in my local area as I help serve them each day as part of my job. Many have become close friends and family which makes it even harder being away all these months. Oh and don’t get me started on the fluffy puppy dog kisses and many animal friends as well that I get to visit at numerous houses. As I deliver their items, I strive to share a bit of joy even if it’s just a smile and a wave that day! My career offers me the opportunity to do the things I love the most, which is helping others. I have expanded my career path by working with the Union and meeting fellow carriers from across the country. I am so used to helping others that it makes it hard to ask for help in return.
I had plans with my savings to work on projects on my new house. I had recently gotten a newer vehicle so I wouldn’t have as many vehicles repair expenses. I use my car for work so it’s one of the most important things to me and my ability to return to work. I didn’t expect to be diagnosed with cancer and off work for over seven months, but who ever expects to get cancer. Unfortunately, I do not have short term disability or other financial help with my job. My leave has been used up and have not had any income in months. I will be returning to work in the next several weeks and only need help getting back on my feet. Currently I am at risk of losing my vehicle and home during past due expenses. I know once I am back working that things will work out, but I am asking for help to get me through this time and relieve some added stress due to the financial burden of my cancer journey. I had a hard time processing all the things I experienced during my treatment, so it was too hard to write or share about during that time. I will be working on updating my story through my treatment and what I experienced over the next few days.
