My family is in a major financial crisis. My father, Rodney Shaffer (54), had a stroke last month and is still in the hospital on the road to recovery. And my mom, Kimberly Shaffer (55), will be undergoing a multiple neck vertebrae replacement surgery on September 18th which can not be rescheduled. She needs the surgery as soon as possible to stop her arm tremors and to prevent another TIA (transient ischemic attack). I have no other close family nearby besides my little brother who can help care for my parents but he also has to focus on his second year of high school. We have been through so much already this last year even before the pandemic even started.
It started off with our house having a major two story water leak back in Spring of 2019 and us having to be moved out of our house for about 9 months. While this was happening my dad discovered he had bladder cancer. Luckily it was caught in its early stages and he was able to receive treatment and surgery quickly. A few months later is when the virus started taking a toll at the hospitals where my dad worked. He is a respiratory therapist and works very closely with the infected patients daily. The extra work hours really impacted his ability to function normally along with the constant battle with the insurance and contractors to do the house renovation smoothly. If all of that wasn’t enough, his peak stress happened when his mom passed away in July. He spiraled into a world of grief and decided to just work even more. I guarantee all of these factors are why he had the stroke. All of this also happened in the midst of moving both of my sisters to Franciscan University in Ohio. He is getting disability which is good but EDD decided to use his 2 lowest paychecks of last year to determine how much money he will receive. In other words, we aren’t going to be able to pay most bills or the contractors by next month without some form of help.
All incoming donations will be put towards:
Monthly mortgage
Contractors
House insurance co-pay
Car insurance
Groceries
Electricity Bill
Gas Bill
Hospital co-pay
For those family/friends who know me, you already know how much I hate spending money so I need a really good reason to dip into my savings. My savings are all but gone too since I got laid off from my job back in July and will need to step into the role as caretaker very soon. Thank you to everyone in advance and I truly appreciate anything that is donated.
I’m going to start this fundraiser at a goal of 20,000. Every little bit helps even if we don’t make our goal. If you are unable to help financially then sharing to anyone you think might be able to help will really go a long way. And if you are willing, please lift my family up in prayer to conquer this hurdle life has thrown at us.
