On December 17, Keith and Ruth underwent surgery at a hospital in London, Ontario. Keith donated a kidney to Ruth, as she was in stage 5 kidney failure and needed a kidney transplant. Ruth’s recovery has been going well, and Keith initially did well too.

However, on December 18, Keith began experiencing shortness of breath. By December 21, his condition worsened significantly—his breathing deteriorated, and his blood pressure dropped. He was intubated and placed on life support.

Doctors performed an emergency exploratory surgery and discovered a perforation in his bowel, caused by the original surgery. Due to severe inflammation, they couldn’t repair it directly and instead removed a section of the bowel. Unfortunately, there was extensive infection in his abdominal cavity, leading to septic shock and multiple organ failure.

Keith has been on life support since Sunday morning, and his condition has not improved. The family is deeply grateful for the ongoing prayers and support.

Many of you have asked how you can support us, and some have given us funds, which we are so grateful for, and at this time we realize we truly need financial support to continue to support them through this long journey. We appreciate your generosity and support through prayer and we remain hopeful for Keith to come through this.

The funds will go toward all the costs incurred so far in hotels, meals, gas, family support.

Ruth Ann will have to continue to come back 2 times a week to the hospital which is an hour and half away from home and will be continuing to come to hospital for the next 2-3 months. With the weather and winter road conditions we would prefer to have her stay in a hotel or long term housing in London, so she can be by the hospital and visit Keith as he will likely be in ICU for minimum a month.

All family members have taken the time off work to be with Keith and Ruth Ann, and will continue to have to support mom so we can ensure she stays close to Keith and also siblings will be driving her to and from the hospital as well as from Kitchener.

Algunas personas nos han preguntado cómo pueden ayudarnos, y algunos ya nos han brindado apoyo económico, lo cual agradecemos enormemente. En este momento nos damos cuenta de que realmente necesitamos ayuda financiera para poder continuar apoyándolos en este largo camino. Apreciamos su generosidad y sus oraciones, y seguimos confiando en Dios en que Keith salga adelante.

Los fondos se destinarán a cubrir todos los gastos hasta ahora: hoteles, comidas, gasolina y apoyo familiar. Ruth Ann tendrá que regresar al hospital dos veces por semana, que está a hora y media de casa, y continuará yendo durante los próximos 2-3 meses. Con el clima y las condiciones invernales de las carreteras, preferimos que se quede en un hotel o alojamiento a largo plazo en London, para que pueda estar cerca del hospital y visitar a Keith, quien probablemente permanecerá en la UCI por al menos un mes.
