Hi, my name is Kimberley. I have recently been diagnosed with Oesophageal adenocarcinoma. I refer to it as stomach cancer. (Medical words are way too big for me )

I have always been employed and never thought anything would happen to me, least of all cancer. It was a shock, and my plans for a small career change have been put on hold. Prior to my diagnosis I worked as a probation and parole officer. I took some time off and used my leave before resigning from this role to work for an organisation that facilitates Men’s Behaviour Change Program. I was in this role for 2 days, prior to being informed of my cancer diagnosis, hence no leave or sick leave.

Ive always been fiercely independent and never saw this coming. I find it difficult to ask for help, but due to these circumstances beyond my control I need to ask for assistance.

I understand times are difficult and any amount you can afford would be appreciated greatly.

It’s only for a short time until I can access my superannuation on compassionate grounds (they informed me I have to wait 8 weeks).
