After 16 years of working in dialysis, I received heartbreaking news. Our Fresenius Dialysis clinic in Eastman, GA will be closing on March 27. Unfortunately, we were only given notice on March 9. That’s not even a full month to prepare. There are 10 employees, including myself, and around 40 patients who are being affected by this sudden closure. The patients are impacted by being forced to travel longer distances for treatment, creating a burden on them and their families as well.

Though I rarely discuss in details, I also live with several serious health conditions. I have degenerative joint disease, chronic arthritis, depression (for which I take medication), and other medical issues. After combining those issues with having both hips replaced, both shoulders replaced, and a knee scope, I’m physically limited on what I can actually do. I also have a spinal cord stimulator and wear a pain patch to help manage my chronic pain. Working is very difficult because I’m constantly in pain, but I push through because I have financial responsibilities. Employment options are very limited for me and while I actively seek employment after this sudden life change, I will still need financial support.

I previously applied for disability but was denied because I was still working at the time. Now that my job is ending and employment options in this economy for my health conditions are limited; I will be applying again. I know that the disability application process takes time. In the meantime, my bills will continue to come in and I will have no income. I have 3 adult children, with their own responsibilities and I know they’ll contribute as much as they can. However, they’re young and as their mom, I’ve been who they turn to for help.

I’m simply asking for help during this difficult transition while I apply for disability and figure out my next steps. Any support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer—would truly mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any help you can give.
