Finances needed for Fulltime caregiver

What do you do when the most important people in your life can no longer take care of themselves?

My name is Wess Murray and I am referring to my mother, Deborah and grandmother, Mary Lou. My Mother has taken care of my grandmother since she retired almost 20 years ago. During that time, Grandma has developed a number of significant health issues, including Stage 4 COPD. She is also in the late stages of dementia.

Even when my mother was healthy, dealing with my grandmother was an enormous task. But after my mother was rushed to the hospital for an emergency quadruple bypass in September, she could not care for my grandmother or herself.  

Three months ago, I left my apartment in the Bronx, New York to live with my mother and grandmother in Maryland. There, I have spent my days cooking and cleaning for my bed-ridden mother and caring for my grandmother, whose dementia leaves her in a constant state of confusion. To say this is challenging is an understatement.

As much as I would love to continue to support them, I can no longer do it alone. Mary Lou is 84 years old and because of her dementia, she demands constant supervision. Debora needs physical therapy to walk again. Over the months ahead they will need to be at doctor appointments, potential hospital stays, and surgeries. As you can imagine the normal costs of everyday living...such as rent, food, gas, car, etc...those costs can be astronomical. In addition to all of this, I have my own apartment rent, career, and cat that need attention. 

We started this GoFundMe to raise money for a caregiver who can assist my mother and grandmother throughout the day and most of the evening for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks. 

This will enable my ladies to concentrate on getting well and living better than before my mother’s quadruple bypass surgery.
