My Everest Challenge for Women and Children Escaping Abuse
My name is Leonard Charlton and I am climbing beyond Mount Everest Base Camp to Kala Patthar. As part of this journey, I'm raising money for my late mother's charity, the Sara Charlton Foundation (SCF). My mother was an incredibly kind and compassionate woman who always helped others and cared deeply for vulnerable women and families facing homelessness.
The Foundation funds specialist domestic abuse organisations that employ Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs). We aim to raise as much as possible to help fund frontline advocates’ salaries through the Foundation’s partner organisations. These advocates provide life-saving support to women and their children, helping them find safety and housing, and giving them the chance to rebuild their lives. With your contributions, dozens of women and children will receive crucial support to build a safer future.
Domestic abuse is one of the leading causes of family homelessness. In 2023 to 2024, 12,130 families with children in England became homeless because of domestic abuse. Each Independent Domestic Violence Advocate supports about 65 to 70 survivors every year. Their work saves lives and gives families the safety and stability they desperately need.
Every pound raised in this effort will be allocated to finance IDVAs. Your donation will go directly to funding this vital work and will help survivors of domestic abuse find safety, rebuild their lives and create a future free from violence.
Thank you for any contribution, large or small, it will make a real difference.
With much gratitude,
Leonard
