My goal for the past 32 years has been to be an RN. For 22 of those years I was addicted to Methamphetamine. Lost contact with my three children, had no job, and was homeless. Went to jail from a drug charge--served four months. Clean and sober for the past 10+ years and counting! Got a job, went back to school. Working now in a Hospital as a Unit Secretary. Single father, and sole custody of my 17-year old daughter (pictured above) for the past four years. I graduated with my RN in May 2017.
With my background, the Board of Nursing denied my request to practice as a nurse. Liquidated my 401k and hired a lawyer, completed every task the Board requested. With dozens of letters of recommendation and with the help of my lawyer, I was granted an appeal. Now, nearly two years later, the Board says I can practice as a Nurse--AFTER I complete the final step, a mental and physical evaluation .
The two evaluations need to be completed by 02-01-2019 The evaluations need to be completed by very specific physicians, my insurance, of course wont cover the cost. The first quote I got was over five-thousand dollars. After many phone calls, and reaching out to many doctors, I have found and made an appointment for 01-14-2019, just within my deadline. Payment is due prior to evaluations.
My days are now full of hope & happiness! My two older boys have grandchildren and I will enjoy seeing them over the holidays! My Parents are still alive and they NEED to see me practice as an RN--as they have always been there for me. I plan on working in an ICU specializing in Cardiac Disorders--I LOVE working with the heart!
Thank you for your time.
