Still Life is a coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama that tracks 15-year-old Dafne across a critical turning point in her life: The last four months of 1999 (the last four months before her mother dies).
Based on first-time writer / director Lauren Shapiro's own experience of losing her mother to leukemia in January, 2000, the film offers a relatable and realistic portrait of what it is like to try to proceed with one's daily life in the midst of an unfolding trauma–the paradox of a Still Life.
We ran a successful crowd funding campaign in 2023 that allowed us to shoot the film in 2024 and edit it in 2025.
We just received our first invitation to screen at a film festival (we will be at The Roxie in SF at 3:30pm on Feb. 7, as a part of SF IndieFest: https://sfindie2026.eventive.org/schedule/694bf97765c9cdb11071c2b8 )
Help us raise the funds to cover postproduction (e.g. sound mixing) in time to meet the festival deadline!
