Final Expenses of Michael C. Gay

Donation protected
On September 24, 2020 Mike went to the hospital to have a routine angioplasty performed. During the procedure, the doctors discovered that his condition was more complicated than they originally thought due to the location of the blockage. Two days later, Mike went into surgery again for a coronary bypass; a serious but common procedure. Due to COVID-19, no family members were allowed at the hospital to get news of the surgery’s progress and waited patiently at home.

As hours passed, family members became increasingly concerned as they still had not received any word from the hospital. Having waited long enough, one of them called the hospital to determine the progress. The response from the hospital was that he was out of surgery; the family felt a sense of relief. Soon after, word came from the hospital that the surgery had not gone as expected; Mike was fighting for his life.

Over the next eight weeks, Mike fought and underwent numerous surgeries in an attempt to get him healthy enough for a heart transplant, including implanting two devices to beat his heart for him. There were many ups and downs during this period. For every step forward, there were two steps back. At one point, there was a sense that Mike was getting better and family members anticipated the long road to recovery.

Unfortunately, on November 19, 2020, after a series of setbacks, Mike passed away at the age of 65.

Mike was a friend to everyone. He was selfless. He loved his family more than anything, and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was passionate about many things, including his job as a bus driver, reading, playing softball, watching baseball, and racing. He was very talented with cars and home renovation projects. If you needed help with something car or house related, Mike was your guy. Mike had an incredible sense of humor. Nobody could come up with a witty “dad” joke as quickly as him. His loss was devastating to his wife, children, family and friends. He will always be missed and can never be replaced. We take solace in knowing he is no longer in pain.

All donations provided will go directly toward paying final expenses. We all greatly appreciate your support.
