Our dad, Don Harrington, is well-known around the Watertown area. He's been a school bus driver for over 35 years, a local self-employed plumber for even longer, and has left a lasting impression on everyone he has ever met. Socializing with people has always been his favorite pasttime. He could be found nearly every day having coffee or a meal at The Wheel Inn, the Roadhouse, and many other local restaurants, chatting with everyone around him.
Earlier in 2021 he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukeima. He has had several rounds of treatment at several hospitals and everyone has been trying to do everything they can. From the start, his goal has been to beat cancer and get back to the things he loves; driving school bus, plumbing, and spending time with friends and family. Unfortunately we were told that he's past the age of eligibility for bone marrow transplants, so ultimately we knew cancer would win.
Recently the disease has overtaken everyone's efforts, and he and the family have made the difficult decision for him to go into home hospice care. We know it's only a matter of time, but we are cherishing every last moment we have with him.
As many of you know, our dad is a man of simple means, and always takes pleasure from the small things in life. Unfortunately this also means we are not well prepared for the expenses after we lose him. We're trying to raise funds to help with all of his final expenses so that we can spend these last few days worrying about more important things than money.
Please, if Don has ever touched your life in some way, consider donating to this fund.
Our dad was also a Vietnam Veteran while serving in the Navy. He actually signed up for multiple tours of duty because he wanted to help in any way he could.
Thank you all for your help!
