I’m organizing this go fund me for my brother Jamison Weil who was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma of his thyroid, larynx, and lymph nodes on September 26th, 2023. Squamous cell carcinoma is a very rare cancer accounting for less than <1% of all thyroid cancers and the prognosis and life expectancy are poor. There is no established treatment regime for this type of cancer and the proposed procedure is radical and will leave Jamison with intensive lifelong care needs. Doctors have proposed removing his thyroid, larynx (voice box), lymph nodes, part of his esophagus, and removing his teeth. This is called a total neck dissection and would leave Jamison with a trach (breathing tube), feeding tube, and a voice prosthesis. Post surgery he would receive radiation/chemo and his prognosis would remain poor if he survives the surgery. Rather than choosing the surgery he will instead focus on a holistic approach including Eastern, Ayurvedic medicine, and other supportive therapies.

Jamison is unable to work due to the severity of his illness and the impact it has on his everyday life. I am organizing this on his behalf to assist him and his wife Karen with medical treatments not covered by insurance and some short trips to spend time with loved ones. Any donation would help him to focus exclusively on his medical treatment, mental health, and quality of life.

This has been a devastating blow to our family and one that has re-solidified our belief in the power of the mind, other medical approaches, community, and above all the ability to make informed choices based on your desired quality of life and personal beliefs.
