Mission Statement

Our film is made up of a collective cast and crew members with on screen credibility and experiences both in the industry as well as the topic being covered about the importance of "Mental Health Awareness", with the focus being on men. In our film, people have suffered from childhood trauma, abandonment, rejection, and denial of affection that was never addressed in therapy. The goal is to dismantle the stereotypical belief that therapy is a prescription made ready for crazy people and learning how to operate and survive in dysfunctional environments is portrayed as the norm.

The Story
The importance of Mental Health Awareness and healing for our men.
Kennedy is suffering the ramification of he and his ex-wife’s divorce. The toll of their dissolved marriage impacts their relationship, their daughter and breeds contention amongst friends.

Two childhood friends, now married adults attempt to navigate the complexities of being husbands, fatherhood, and divorce. Kennedy and Ja-Lisa just concluded a bitter divorce that involves finances, assets, and their daughter. Michael, Kennedy’s best friend, encourages Kennedy to see a therapist in order to prevent him from resorting back to destructive behavior. Being the caretaker of his best friend, Michael and his wife Gina have marital frustration as well that has unfortunately lure her into the arms of an unexpected old flame. The unresolved trauma derails one relationship and severely challenges the other.

This film is geared toward helping people confront and deal with traumatic experiences that keep them bound. “Let It Play” primarily focuses on men and how they process and express their emotions. We always tend to see the transformation of the woman from trauma to triumph, but we hardly ever see that same transformation for men. With this film we strive to expose the lie that men are toxic, can’t be emotional intelligent and maintain healthy boundaries and relationships.

Stretch Goals

Our $25,000 goal is the bare minimum amount needed to complete the film, post-production, marketing and distribution. We strive to provide quality everyone involved can be proud of and avoid exploiting the work of all production members.

If we raise $30,000, we'll be able to have contingency funds in place should anything go wrong, as well as cover our post-production costs.

If we raise $35,000, we'll be able to cover our screening and live stream of the premiere, festival, distribution and promotional costs for completing and getting the film into the world and in front of a wider audience.

If we raise $40,000, we'll be able to pay our director and producers (who are currently sacrificing pay for their work out of passion for the project and its message). And we'll be able to offer our team more respectable day rates, as they are all working for far below average - also out of passion for the project and its message. Access funds will also be allocated to prep for continuous work in producing more thought provoking movies and content.

Why This?

Social media, numerous podcast, talking heads, have repeatedly made it clear that men, especially men of color are worthless, lazy, inadequate, devalued, thuggish, violent, lack emotional intelligence, and are somewhat disposable. These are terms that are often used to describe us.

Our voice, our struggle, our emotions are often times disregarded rendered invalid. The moments we try to feel, sit in to embrace the moment, or express our emotions we are targeted as being weak. Most men feel that our vulnerability is weaponized against us, therefore we go into protection mode and shut down. It can't be ignored that in relationships with our women, although there is trauma and issues on both sides, the man is emasculated, and ridiculed beyond repair. It is traumatic experiences such as these and others that lead to men hiding their hearts and refusing to open up and confront what's going on in their life.

Why Now?

The buzz word since the pandemic of 2020 to now 2024 has been, "Mental Health". I actually hate that because that term is tossed around like a ball in the park with a bunch of kids and it shouldn’t be. The statistics of suicide among men, especially "Black Men" is very alarming! We are not talking about this enough nor are we sharing our stories to show that it is okay to seek therapy, be vulnerable, have the tough conversation so that healing can flow.

FAQ's:

So where are you all in the process of creating this film project?

We are currently filming. We have wrapped filming and began post-production. We had an investor that bailed on us during production. He stated that he had a real estate deal pending, and once done he would fund the entire project. Last month he skipped town! This caused major delays, rescheduling of shoot dates and location cancellation’s. With that being said we have somewhat got back on track with a pending completion date of shooting being June 24th, 2024. The footage will be turned over to the editor for film completion. The expected delivery is Fall 2024 (October, November).

How will this campaign move the project forward, and what is your plan for when it’s finished?

The purpose of this campaign is to help us reach the finish line with filming and editing. The expected delivery date is October/November, 2024. We plan to enter the film into multiple film festivals, movie screenings, and partnering with organizations locally as well as nationwide to re-emphasis the importance of mental health and healing from trauma and provide tools and resources to do so.

How and when will your audience receive or view the project?

This release date is tentatively slated for October 26, 2024. There will be a live movie screening in Raleigh, North Carolina. Audience members will also be able to livestream the event as well. The movie will be distributed on multiple streaming platforms as well. (Amazon, Hulu, Peacock, Tubi, etc.)

Can you give your audience clear, direct calls to action (pledge/follow/share)?

Yes! We need monetary donations to ensure the completion of this project. We need you to share the campaign! Follow us social media and engage with the content that you see. "DONATE, FOLLOW, LIKE AND SHARE" Below you will find all of our Social media handles:
