The film OCEANIA: Journey to the Center begins on a coral atoll in the island nation of Kiribati - predicted to become uninhabitable by 2030 due to rising sea levels and temperatures brought by climate change.

OCEANIA is entering our Phase 2. After nearly a decade of work and our first year of screenings completed including 4 internationally recognized awards, this film is asking to be transformed into continued and collaborative real-world change.
The funds raised will go directly toward an impact campaign that includes educational programming, Kiribati community-impact work with the families of the film, and creative immersions including but not limited to screenings, indigenous-led workshops, knowledge exchange networks, and musical experiences.
1. Education and educational programming: We plan to bring this film into high schools and universities around the globe ; Creating curriculum from the film ; Educating on climate resilience and indigenous voices ; Educating teachers with prompts, lesson plans, and workshops.
2. Kiribati community-impact work: The low lying atolls that make up the Kiribati Islands of Micronesia are under multiple attacks. These islands lie in the Pacific Ocean, east of Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. This film tells the story of the Kiribati people, exploited by colonizers and now modern day Western commercialization, shipping vessels, and global demands. This film also tells the story of a community who may become one of the first nations to fully become climate refugees. With guidance from the Kiribati community and co-writer and Kiribati elder Tekinati, we hope to give back to the Kiribati community in the form of resources supporting; climate-resilient farming projects, climate-resilience education, and collaborative projects bridging indigenous and elder wisdom.
3. Creative immersions: This film has toured in festivals around the world, has been translated into 6 languages, and now is ready to enter this PHASE 2. Screenings moving forward will; incorporate musical experiences, invite locals to share their work, support indigenous-led workshops, and welcome artists to create co-participatory impactful experiences.
By supporting this project, you are helping to amplify the voices of those most affected by climate change, supporting them directly, and bringing their stories to new audiences.
Your contribution will help us provide resources and opportunities for the Kiribati community of Micronesia and communities beyond, as well as foster greater understanding and action around climate issues.
Your contribution will also help advance the in-school curriculum currently in development with global educational distributor Collective Eye. This curriculum will include teacher training, classroom prompts, writing opportunities, and gateways to publication.
