I met Hercules through a Christian organization about four years ago.  I have adopted his whole family, not legally of course, but they are now my extended family.  Hercules is a 17 year old young man who lives in the slums of Bohol, Phillipines. Please take a tour of Hercules’s home with me in this videos . This is a new video. https://youtu.be/wfmazqpslro   And this is from last year.     https://youtu.be/vbAkYS0W6l8

I have also attached pictures of his house, him and his sister Xena, his little brother Xeros, his dad Bonifaco and his mother Marianne.  Bonifaco works in the rice fields when he can find work and his mother is currently in Saudi Arabia working as a maid on a two year contract.
This is where Hercules and Xena live.  Their family used to run a little shop in the wicker hut in the second picture..

This is their kitchen.  You can see the fire burning in the kitchen in the video.

      This is their bathroom

This is where they bathe.

This is Hercules,  Xena and their happy family.  I’ve never seen so many smiles in the face of so much poverty.

I was sending a few dollars a month to an organization that paired children from poor communities all over the world with sponsors in the states and Canada.  After being his sponsor for a year I decided I could help his family more if I had a one on one relationship with him.  We’ve been writing, video chatting and talking for three years.  I send his family money monthly plus extra money when they have emergency needs and I periodically send boxes of clothing, snacks, medicine and other needed items.

I also pay the tuition (which isn’t much in US dollars) so that Hercules and his 16 year old sister Xena can attend school.    Hercules is the president of his senior class at Candijay High School and he’s very active in his church.  His family doesn’t own a working tv or computers and they only have the older phones that I sent them.  They can occasionally get WiFi where they write to me and their other friends and like US kids they do like YouTube videos.  Hercules doesn’t work as there are no jobs there so he either sits around bored, does chores or goes to school or church.  He was born with a detached retina in one eye, something that could have easily been fixed with the right physicians, but unfortunately there are no such doctors where he lives, so he is blind in that eye.  He also has a very messed up stomach.  A couple years ago he was at a competition where he is a champion javelin and discus thrower.

One of the boys was concerned that Herc would beat him again so he slipped industrial cleaner in his drink.  Herc drank just enough to make him very sick.   His doctor was giving him some sort of over the counter antacids to try to help his constant stomach aches because that's all they had!  I told them that I had alot of Nexium that I had saved up and his doctor was so excited.   He said they can't get medication like that in the Philippines so I mailed him a years worth.  He used to be sick all the time but not now.  He recently won 3 gold medals in a local track and field competition.

He is fantastic with little children and helps his Sunday school teacher quite a lot.  He wants to either be a teacher or auto mechanic.  Kids who live there don’t have any opportunities so I would love to see him attend college in the states.  We have been working on his English through our letters.  He’s doing so well!!!!    Herc is a very intelligent young man.  His English is getting so much better, thanks to our chats on Messenger.  His native language is Tagalong.

FULL DISCLOSURE:  I used the first $1500 of the funds donated in this campaign to purchase this laptop, Microsoft Office, carrying case, flash drives, DVD discs, CD discs, notebooks, folders, pens/pencils, and other school supplies for Hercules and Xena.   Everyone who has donated prior to August 1, 2019, knew they were donating to the purchase of the laptop and school supplies.

I had this shirt made for him with our names on it  ;-)

He did the artwork and sent it to me and I surprised him and had it made into a shirt!

Hercules has always dreamed of leaving his little island in the Philippines. There is a small airport on the other side of the island but Herc has never seen it. He knows that planes fly to the capital of Manila and that you can get to the rest of the world from there but he'd never heard of Pittsburgh until he met me. I've shown him pictures of Kennywood Park, PNC Park, Heinz Field, the Pittsburgh Zoo, my new favorite team the WV Roughriders and everything else there is to see here so he's very excited about the possibility of him coming here. So he talked about it with his family and we all decided that he had to wait until he turned 18 because of the trouble the government was going to give him to get a Visa at age 17, which will be May 2020. We have to start the passport and Visa process months before that though if we want him to fly in May. There's also a security process he has to go through and we don't know anything about that. I'm going to try to get through to someone who speaks English in Manila who can tell me what the process will be. But after those expenses there's going to be the airfare! It looks like it could be anywhere from $1800 to $3500.   It looks like we could save a lot by driving to Toronto to pick him up instead of flying him into Pittsburgh.  That would also save him a 12 hour layover.  Planning this trip is getting very interesting.  And in 2021 we have promised Xena that we will also bring her over for a month!!

Remember, your donation could be buying a ticket to his first baseball game or his first arena football game or maybe his first shopping spree at Walmart!!   Anything you can contribute will be appreciated by Hercules and my family.  He'll never see anything like this without OUR help.

DISCLAIMER:. All donated funds, whether given to me by cash or through this Go Fund Me page, will be deposited into a dedicated Huntington Bank account for Hercules's trip ONLY.  These funds will NOT be used for any other reason unless the trip has to be cancelled for reasons of poor health, issues with obtaining travel documents through the Philippines government, issues with the US government changing it's policy on who can get a temporary guest vacation Visa, or if we can not obtain enough donations to cover the expenses by the time we need the funds.  If the trip falls through for anymore these reasons the donations will be given directly to the family to use however they choose or possibly used to cover Hercules college tuition if that is what his next steps will be.  Either way, you WILL HELP THIS FAMILY.

In addition to the free postcard promotion (sorry, due to the price of postage, I’ve had to keep this to donations under $30), I’m adding something for those of you who are my angels who can afford a little more. We used to sell Bico Australia jewelry and we have a lot left. For every donation over $30 you can choose 2 of the beautiful pewter, nickel free pendants. These look great on black rope necklaces or Bico Australia chains that you can find anywhere online. Even a piece of hemp rope tied in the back looks great for the kids . I also have 3 BIG chains left that retailed for over $60 each and you can have one of them for a $30 donation.   If you can afford a $60 donation you can pick 4 pendants, $100 will get you 6 pendants.....etc....These pendants are made of pewter and are 100% nickel free, guaranteed to never turn your skin green.  Look the brand Bico Australia up online.  If you want these pendants with your donation you must send me your address and your pendant choice.  Just tell me what picture it is in, what row and describe it and I will take an individual picture of it and send it back to you to verify that it’s the right one.  Yes, they all have a name and a meaning but I lost them along time ago.  You may be able to find them on a Bico Australia page if you’re into that kind of thing.
