Hi, I'm Christina, an independent publisher of Filipino children's books based in Oakland, California. My press, Sari-Sari Storybooks , has been publishing multilingual Filipino children's stories since 2017. These stories support cultural pride and understanding of Filipino culture in young readers, both in the Philippines and the diaspora, with diverse Filipino heroes—indigenous, Muslim and Christian. The press has five titles in Ivatan, Cebuano, Chavacano, Waray, and Meranaw.
Through enchanting illustrations and high-quality printing, these books raise the prestige of underrepresented Philippine languages, and the rich cultural diversity that they hold. Language is foundational to building strong culture and healthy self-esteem—this is why Sari-Sari Storybooks exists.
Selected illustrations by Happy Garaje, Marianne J. Palita, Ray Sunga, Jaypee Portez, and Robbie Bautista.
As a tiny press, I'm unable to give books to schools, libraries, and education partners without donor support. This is where you can help!
A donation to this GoFundMe funds books for our partners in the Philippines (and hopefully U.S. literacy organizations). PH editions cost $6 per book, while US editions cost $12 for softcovers and $20 for hardbacks. At the end of this fundraiser, I will share with donors how many books were gifted, and where they were sent.
Through the generosity of past donors, Sari-Sari Storybooks has given about 1,500 books to Library Renewal Partnership, the Soar High Foundation of Marawi, the Batanes Department of Education, and a handful of libraries in Tagaytay. Please help me grow access to these unique stories, and to broaden understanding of what it means to be Filipino.
Maraming salamat, Christina
