In Memory of Filiberto Barrios

UPDATE 7/11/20:
We would like to thank each and every individual who generously donated to our GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Groundsman Filiberto Barrios, dedicated BBCC employee of 16 years. With your help we were able to raise over $21,000 for the Barrios family, over 25% above the campaign target. The monies raised will greatly benefit the family as well as help with funeral arrangement & costs. We couldn't have done it without your generosity and support - THANK YOU!


In Memory of Filiberto Barrios ~

Filiberto was a  greatly-loved employee of the Bonnie Briar Country Club who passed away recently from Covid-19.  Filiberto arrived at work on Monday, March 30th feeling unwell and was sent home shortly after to quarantine and recover. In the days that followed, we were unable to contact Filiberto despite many attempts.  We learned from Filiberto’s brother that he was admitted to a hospital in New Rochelle on April 3rd and sadly lost his triumphant fight on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Filiberto grew up in Guatemala, as one of nine children.  Before making his home in the United States, Filiberto served in the military in Guatemala. He loved to play soccer and played when whenever he could. Filiberto joined Bonnie Briar’s Greens & Grounds team in April of 2004 and has been an integral part of the team’s success in improving and maintaining our golf course. Many of you will remember his constant smile and pleasant demeanor.  Filiberto had recently married his wife Marta and planned to return to Guatemala at the end of the year to begin his retirement. 

This GoFundMe account has been established so that our members and staff may make donations to his family in honor of Filiberto. 

We wish to thank you, Filiberto, for all of your hard work and dedication, your good nature, and lively spirit. You will truly be missed.
