Fig's FIP Treatment
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
At the end of September, 2023, we adopted a pair of sweet Siamese kittens, Maple and Fig. One month after coming home with us, Fig began showing signs of lethargy, stopped eating, and developed severe abdominal bloating. We took him to the vet to get him checked out, and were quickly referred to an emergency vet for further testing.
Both our vet and the emergency vet diagnosed Fig with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). The disease is fatal if left untreated, and there are no FDA-approved treatment options currently available. However, our vets put us in contact with an FIP support group. This group introduced us to an experimental treatment that has shown an 80% success rate in curing FIP in cats.
This treatment involves 12 weeks of daily injections and multiple bloodwork panels, followed by another 12 weeks of observation to ensure that he doesn't relapse. We began his treatment on November 2nd. On November 5th he developed additional ocular and neurological symptoms, and he now requires twice-a-day injections for the time being to make sure he can fight off the disease. As of November 11th, he is showing signs of improvement after increasing his FIP medication dosage!
Luckily, our comprehensive pet insurance covers most of the cost of emergency vet bills and prescriptions, but it does not cover the cost of FIP medication since it is not currently FDA-approved. With his increased dosage requirement, the cost of medication is higher than we initially calculated. The funds we raise here will go directly toward the cost of the FIP medication. Please consider donating to help Fig recover and live a long, healthy life!
Thank you, and give your pets lots of love and cuddles.
