Update!!!
I had my single mastectomy with expander placement on 7/10/24. After 6 weeks and 2 days, an ER visit, a hospital stay, and a month of antibiotics, I had my RE reconstruction done due to an infection. I am now 10 weeks post op initial surgery and 4 weeks post op secondary surgery. I feel pretty good but know that I am not out of the woods completely due to the unknown reason for the initial infection and a sulfa drug sensitivity that limits the antibiotics I can be on.
Following my initial surgery, pathology came back positive for residual disease in both the breast tissue and lymph nodes meaning a change in my initial treatment plan. I was initially scheduled for a Phesgo injection every 21 days until Mid-November. That has now switched to 14 rounds of a Kadcyla infusion every 21 days extending this roller coaster until Mid May 2025. I have currently completed 2 rounds with mild nausea, fatigue, and low WBCs to show for it. WAYYYY better than the initial 6 rounds of chemo and no cold capping!!
On the bright side… my eyebrows and eyelashes have grown back!! We have to celebrate all tiny victories during all of this
As far as radiation goes, it has been pushed back due to the infection and secondary surgery but I am scheduled for my initial consult with the radiation team on 9/30/24. After that I can expect 5 days a week of radiation for 6 weeks.
These 10 weeks are the longest I have ever been out of work but am very happy to say that I have had the chance to see Luke Combs in concert (again!!), go to a couple of Orioles games, an Eagles game, a comedy show, a magic show, and have spent so much time with friends and family. That being said, I am so grateful to be able to resume working this week on modified duty doing administrative work and hope to resume to full duty in another 2 weeks.
I am so very thankful for my wonderful boyfriend, Remy, my family, my friends, my coworkers, and my amazing network of thrivers and survivors that have helped keep me going over the past 9 months. Through the ups and the downs, all the morbid humor, the tears, and the laughs, I know I can count on my team to continue to hold my hand. I love you all
