Help Kail Fight Cancer
Donation protected
On May 21st 2020, our world was completely turned upside down. My sister received the news that no parent ever wants to hear, my amazing 4-year-old niece, Makailen “Kail” Abdalla, was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B.A.L.L).
Kail had been complaining of an earache and Emalea had some concerns over some bruising Kail had recently been experiencing, so she scheduled a doctor’s appointment. During routine blood work, it was discovered that her platelet count was 13, this is extremely low. She was rushed to Vanderbilt’s Children Hospital for blood transfusions and further testing.
At this point, we still had some hope that there were other diagnoses that could be causing her low platelet levels. However, as more results came back, they told my sister that the chances were high that it would be cancer, and on Thursday the 21st pathology confirmed leukemia. This was a huge shock to our family and made worse by the pandemic that limits Kail to just one visitor.
As of May 23, Kail has already had a lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy, a port placed and started the first round of many chemotherapies. She is expected to remain in the hospital for the next 2-4 weeks. Then the typical treatment for BALL is a 2-year marathon, of hospital stays, dr. visits and all the ups and downs that come with cancer. We are hopeful that with her team of doctors and love and support from those around her, our sweet Kail can beat this and have an amazing healthy childhood.
Kail is a proud little sister to her older brother Mason (9) and older sister Arielle (8). She is outgoing and outspoken, and just a little, ok maybe a lot sassy. She adores animals, birds and butterflies most of all, she hopes one day to be an “animal doctor”. She is all-around a happy, active little girl who has big dreams for the future.
She blessed with a blended family her mom- Emalea, dad- Kyle and step-dad- Adam, will all be supporting her in her fight with cancer. This is an amazing family and we are asking for the support from our friends and community who wish to donate to help cover the mounting medical expense from Kail’s battle with cancer.
She is currently under the care of the Pediatric Oncology Team at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
All contributions are greatly appreciated and will help alleviate many financial burdens (medical expenses, travel, food, lost income) her loving parents incur during this devastating time.
There is no donation too small, if you are unable to donate, please continue to share her story! Let’s join forces to help Kail and her family in their fight against cancer! #FightwithKail
