Seven years ago, Nick and Janessa Whatcott faced every parent’s worst nightmare when they lost their 7-year-old son, Nixon, after an 15-month battle with osteosarcoma. They have also experienced the heartbreak of burying a baby at birth. Through unimaginable grief, they chose to turn pain into purpose by founding the Nixon Strong Foundation, serving and supporting other families walking through childhood cancer.

Yesterday, their world was shaken once again.

Their 16-year-old son, Hudson, has been diagnosed with leukemia.

In an instant, the memories, trauma, and fear from Nixon’s battle have come flooding back — hospital rooms, treatments, sleepless nights, and the overwhelming uncertainty that no family should ever have to endure twice. As they begin this new fight alongside Hudson, they are once again stepping away from work, routines, and the stability of everyday life to focus fully on their son’s care and healing.

To make matters even heavier, Janessa’s 17-year-old nephew is currently on the same hospital floor battling osteosarcoma as well. Their family is surrounded by this fight from every direction.

Their oldest son, Drew, is currently serving an LDS mission in California, while their youngest, Jet, is at home trying to process the reality of what this diagnosis means for his big brother.

The financial strain that comes with long-term cancer treatment is immediate and overwhelming — medical bills, travel, missed work, meals, and countless unforeseen expenses begin to pile up quickly. This fundraiser is to help ease that burden so Nick and Janessa can focus on what matters most: being present with Hudson through every step of this fight.
