Our dear friend, Eva Putterman has been part of the Havana Jack's Oceanside restaurant "family" for a year as a bartender and more recently as a manager. She is originally from France and moved to Marathon, Florida nine years ago. For those who have the honor of knowing her, she is a loyal and caring friend with a good and kind heart who has always helped anyone who needed her.
On July 13th Eva was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. After going through multitudes of tests and biopsies (Blood tests, PET scan, MRI's, Echo Doplar, and Blood port placement surgery) she began undergoing chemotherapy on August 7th. Eva travels every other week to Miami for chemotherapy treatments and must travel to Tavernier for checkups during the off-weeks. The chemotherapy will continue for 4 months at which time they will do more tests to make sure that the tumor has shrunk enough for surgery. After confirming that the tumor has shrunk, she will need to undergo two surgeries and radiation treatment followed by hormone therapy.
As you can imagine, Eva's medical bills are enormous. As of August 16 medical bills are already above $30,000. Due to the travel and side effects of treatment she is not able to work as many hours to earn money for living expenses and travel expenses -though she is trying! The physical toll of this treatment is not to be underestimated.
Eva has a long road ahead of her, but is such a strong and positive human being that we have no doubt she will beat this disease with the grace and kindness she always shows to everyone who enters her life. Please help us help Eva during this time of financial hardship.
