Hi I'm Darla and thank you so much for reading my story.
I have had stage 4 Metastatic Breast cancer for over 4 years now. It has spread to my lymph nodes, bones, lungs and liver.
My first treatment was a targeted pill called Verzenio. Last August of 2025 it stopped working.
Now I'm getting a type of chemo called Enhertu infusions. This has stabilized my tumors for now, but worse side effects.
I lost my job last September and have recently been approved for disability. The pay is a fraction of what I used to make when I worked.
I'm asking for financial assistance for those who are able to help. I would use any received funds wisely. The funds
would be used for treatment costs that aren't fully covered by my insurance ( I am waiting for Medicaid approval right now) Transportation to Kansas City for my treatments has been complicated as my car is not reliable and needs repairs. I would also be using the funding for my household bills.
My homeowners insurance informed me that my wood siding is too worn and if not replaced when the inspectors come out, I would lose my coverage. That is a cost that has me really concerned.
I am always checking on clinical trials for a possible cure.
My dream is to start an animal sanctuary for cats and dogs who are unwanted. About 10 years ago I rescued a cat who has a crippled leg. I named him Bobbins and he is so happy. He follows me around like he's my service dog!
I want to live so much longer so I can have more time with my family, friends and my beloved pets. I am single and my adult sons are not in a good position to help me out financially.
Having cancer this long has changed my outlook on life for the better. I find myself smiling at people more :)
I am trying to stay strong and hopefully live long enough to see a cure for my type of cancer.
I'll be adding a document from KU Med of the details and start date of my latest treatment as soon as I can figure out how to add docs and not just photos.
I would tremendously appreciate any help I receive. Thank you so much for reading my story!
KU Med doc, new Enhertu treatment starting August 2025
Bobbins the service dog/cat :) !
Getting Enhertu treatment last week
My son and I at Worlds of Fun, 2018, before I was diagnosed with cancer.
When I started losing my hair after starting Enhertu treatment, I'm going to get a wig!
