This is our Super Cam! He is the happiest fella you will ever meet. He is truly one of God’s miracles. Cam was born March 1, 2018 at 28 weeks and spent his first 90 days in neonatal unit in Florence SC. Doctors weren’t sure if he was going to make it but despite a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Polymicrogyria, Periventricular Leukomalacia, and two brain injuries- he fought through and came home. He’s Super Strong!
Unfortunately, last week hit Cam very hard. He is currently in the pediatric critical care unit in Columbia, SC fighting for his life again. He had a three severe seizures Monday (5/3/2021) on the way home from a routine trip to Columbia to see his neurologist which sent us rushing to the Florence ER. They recognized the severity of his symptoms and sent us right back to Columbia. While waiting for transport, Cam experienced a 5 to 6 hour long seizure.
They kept him sedated, but his brain continued to be in a constant state of seizure. Doctors decided to induce a coma to hopefully act as a “restart” to stop the seizure activity.
While in the hospital, an area of one of his lungs collapsed. He had to be intubated. After intubation and medication, Cam is finally able to rest, but they have started treating him for pneumonia.
We call him Super Cam because he has fought from day one and still fights today. Multiple doctors have said that Cam would never do so many things and each time he has proven them wrong. They said he would never crawl, walk, or speak. He can roll over, crawl/ scoot , get up on his knees, and almost stand. Cam is nonverbal, but his facial expression says it all!
Cam’s family is eager to wake up from this dreadful nightmare, but Drs have stated it will be a long road ahead. There is no miracle cure for Cam. Medication adjustments and making him comfortable is all they can do, it’s really up to him. Cam has a beautiful family and they all need our support. His mother, Mary, is not able to work because she is staying at Cam’s side and her mother is caring for his big brother that is staying home just waiting to have their Super Cam back.
This is a very delicate moment for Mary and ANY amount would help when the time comes to receive their Hospital and Household bills. Mary will be out of work and away from home for as long as it takes. Any type of support is very welcome! If you can't donate, please consider keeping Cam in your prayers and send many positive thoughts to this family.
We will continue to update as we get information.
