Help Emily Fight!

Emily is an energetic, fun-loving, sweet little ten-year-old girl who is my baby cousin. She’s always had such a sweet spirit about her and we’ve all enjoyed so much watching her grow and mature into a young lady. She has been a blessing to her family in more ways than one. Her bright and cheerful smile and sweet laugh lights up any room when she walks in.

Emily loves art and is an incredibly talented artist! She also loves reading, camping, and riding her bike. She loves animals, nature, and just being outside in the sunshine. She loves fruits of all kinds and Mexican food and her favorite colors are pink and green.
Emily has recently been diagnosed with a malignant medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor in children. There are about 400 cases each year in the United States. Emily hasn’t been feeling well the past few months and after continuing to go back to the doctor to see what was going on, a mass was discovered on the MRI when she was sent to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. That’s when they discovered it was a tumor around her brain stem.

She was then sent to OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City to await brain surgery. They scheduled surgery to remove the tumor within the week. She was blessed enough to have one of the best doctors there is for pediatric neurosurgery doing the operation.
The surgery was successful, but the biopsy showed the tumor was malignant. Emily also suffered seizures as a side effect of the surgery which set her recovery back a bit, but they were able to get her stabilized and she is now home and recovering.

She will be going back to OU Children’s Hospital next week to get her port put in for chemotherapy and radiation treatments and she will also get a spinal tap done to check if there are cancer cells in her spinal fluid. This will all be done while she is under anesthesia. The following week she will start her craniospinal chemo and radiation treatments. She will go Monday-Friday for a six week period for treatment getting to come home on the weekends. She will receive chemotherapy treatment every 4-6 weeks for 6-9 months after the six week treatment is completed.

Emily needs prayer that this cancer has NOT spread to her spinal fluid!
Jeremy (Emily’s Dad) is the sole provider for the family of four, and Angie (Emily’s mom) is a stay-at-home mom. She also has a little sister, Natalie, who very much wishes her big sister would get better soon. Jeremy and Angie have not left Emily’s side since she was first diagnosed two weeks ago. They need help with loss of income during this time to pay bills (mortgage, utilities, insurance, etc.), travel expenses (traveling to and from Oklahoma City during six week treatment and for the treatments after) and meals. ANY amount is greatly appreciated! Whether it’s $5, $25, or $100. Whatever the Lord leads you to give. Just know that you will be blessed for it.

Helping this family financially is one way we can help ease the burden even just a little bit. I never could have imagined what it’s like to be so close to a child diagnosed with cancer, until now. I’ve always seen the St. Jude’s commercials on TV, but never decided to give, until now. You just never know when it will be your family it effects.
It’s so heartbreaking to see this family going through this, but they have been a testimony to all who have witnessed their bravery so far. They’ve given this to the Lord the best they know how and have said He has it all under control. I couldn’t agree with them more. One of the things that has stuck out to me is something Emily’s mom, Angie, has said. When asked by the hospital chaplain how she was doing with all this, Angie said I’m making it because I know Jesus is with me. Her Dad has said Emily is a warrior and that she is!
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee: yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 41:10

A special thank you and deepest appreciation to those who have already donated. Emily has absolutely loved the cards, stuffed animals, teacher visits, and flowers all from Moseley School. That has meant the world to her and her parents. Thank you to Moseley School as well for all the monetary donations. Your donations and support have been so thoughtful during this time.
We also greatly thank Emily’s church family for all the food that has been sent, money, and especially visits and prayers. Thank you to all the friends and family that have donated as well and those who have donated anonymously.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your consideration of donating from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of Emily’s family. I would greatly appreciate if you could share this. We need to get the word out as much as we can! Thank you!!!
