Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) occurs when the diaphragm, the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen, fails to close during prenatal development. This opening allows contents of the abdomen (stomach, intestines, galbladder and/or liver ) to migrate into the chest, impacting the growth and development of the lungs.
CDH requires vigorous resuscitation and ventilation within minutes of birth, repair surgery in the following days and lifelong symptoms ranging in severity.
Unfortunately our sweet little babygirl has been diagnosed with this condition at 28 weeks.. Cincinnati childrens has given her a 50% survival chance in which i just absolutely can not settle for so we have decided to pack up and travel to St. Petersburg Florida to the John Hopkins all childrens hospital, where Dr. Kays a well known specialist in CDH has given us a 90% survival chance.
Being almost 33 weeks now this has been a lot to take in in such a short period of time we plan to be leaving as soon as we can on our journey to Florida for our babygirl in hopes of eventually bringing her home.
Though this decision was an easy one to make given the survival rates and expertise of the team at JHACH it will be hard emotionally, mentally and financially. This being our first baby and us being 18 and newly 19, travel, lodging, the Pandemic and uncertainties with the Ronald McDonald House as well as regular monthly bills.
This is truly so hard to ask of everyone the absolute last thing i wanted to do, If you all could kindly consider just a small donation to help with all of the expenses we could not thank you enough..
